A shower base must fit the model shower unit you own. Shower bases can be replaceable to save money on a remodel or if it becomes damaged. Shower base installation means creating a perfectly level area and having the proper plumbing installed. It is not a job for a beginning do it yourself craftsman. A shower stall base is sometimes called a shower pan. Custom shower bases can be made to fit any size shower stall. Corian shower bases are easy to clean and practically maintenance free. They are designed to last a lifetime. A terrazzo shower base is made of composite chips of marble and Portland cement.

Care And Maintenance

Shower bases need to be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner such as dish soap. An acrylic shower base is also maintenance free other than a wash with a non-abrasive cleaner on a regular basis. A custom shower base can be designed to fit any shower unit and even be accessible for handicap persons. A rectangular shower base is the most common shape. They come with different heights of the lip or edge that you step over to enter. If a person cannot step over a lip, some bases have a door that closes waterproof tight to allow for a wheelchair. There is no one right way to build a shower base. The base must be level. It also must have good drainage if it is outside. It is not recommended that a homeowner build his own indoor shower unless he has had professional experience doing so. Stone shower bases are usually found in an outdoor shower. They provide good drainage for runoff water. Bathroom shower bases come in many sizes and shapes to fit a homeowners needs. An outdoor shower can be as simple as a pole with a showerhead attached and a spigot. Indoor shower bases can be placed in the corner of the room or freestanding if needed. Terrazzo shower bases are bases made of chips of marble and Portland cement. The result is a one of a kind design. These bases add a unique touch to bathroom decor and matching them is a matter of complimentary colors versus finding an exact color match. Installing a tile shower base means careful planning and can be accomplished by a do it yourselfer with some tile work experience.
